The Town of Niagara Farmland Conservancy, a not-for-profit organization, was established by lifelong residents of Miller Road in the Town of Niagara. Joan E. Johnson, president and Teresa Lasher Winslow, vice president, in a grass-roots effort to preserve and enhance the remaining meadows and tree stands that we remember and treasure for childhood.

The Conservancy, seeking to protect increasingly scarce natural habitat, propose to establish the Joseph Sutherland Nature Preserve with trails throughout for the public.

With a generous grant from the Niagara River Greenway Commission Ecological Standing Committee, the Town of Niagara Farmland Conservancy has purchased 26.3 acres of farmland, meadow regeneration area and hedgerows located in the Town of Niagara, east of Miller Road, west of Garlow Road and north of Colonial Drive.

The Conservancy also received a gift of 38.2 acres meadow and woods located bordering the Town of Niagara Veteran’s’ Memorial Park. It is now the proposed site that would be a forever preserve established to restore the dwindling population of Short-Earred Owls that are native to this area.
